Most recently, Sandy served as the Managing Director for the County of Maui, overseeing the operations and administration of a county with a $1 billion budget, 165,000 citizens, and 20 departments. He joined the county in 2011 as the Budget Director, responsible for developing and implementing the operating and capital budget. Before that, he served as CEO/Executive Director for Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc., where he managed over 70 federal, state, and private grants totaling more than $21 million.
In addition to his professional experience, Sandy has a deep commitment to community involvement. He is a Hawaii Community Foundation PONO Fellow, a Pacific Century Fellow, and a recipient of the Pacific Business News “Forty Under 40” Award. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce Foundation, sits on the board of Maui United Way, and is a member of the UH Maui College Chancellor's Advisory Hui. Sandy has also trained dozens of nonprofits on proper board responsibilities and governance.
Born and raised on Maui, Sandy is proud to call it home and is raising his family there. He graduated from St. Anthony High School and holds a Master of Business Administration in Management and Strategy from Western Governors University.
